The MAGNETOM Vida uses a 3 Tesla superconducting magnet with a maximum field of view of 55 × 55 × 50 cm (21.7 × 21.7 × 19.7 in). The large imaging volume supports broad anatomical coverage and off-center imaging for body, spine, neurological, musculoskeletal, and other advanced examinations, while high field uniformity supports consistent image quality and fat suppression across demanding 3T protocols.

XQ & XT Gradient Performance

The Vida is available with two primary gradient packages:

    • XQ: Up to 45 mT/m gradient strength and 200 T/m/s slew rate.
    • XT: Up to 60 mT/m gradient strength and 200 T/m/s slew rate.

Both configurations support fast, high-resolution MRI, while XT provides additional gradient strength for facilities prioritizing advanced diffusion, neurological imaging, and other gradient-intensive applications. The installed gradient package should be confirmed when selecting a system.

Tim RF Architecture with 32, 64, or 128 Receive Channels

The MAGNETOM Vida uses Siemens Tim RF technology to support high-density coils and accelerated imaging. Vida configurations can provide 32, 64, or 128 independent receive channels, with compatible configurations including Tim [204 × 32], Tim [204 × 64], and Tim [228 × 128].

Higher-channel configurations support additional high-density coil combinations and greater flexibility for advanced imaging. Some coil options require Tim [204 × 64] or Tim [228 × 128], so the RF configuration should be matched to the facility’s planned examination mix.

Vida Patient Access & Exam Experience

70 cm Bore Size & Patient Access

The Vida has a 70 cm (27.6 in) wide bore that provides additional room for larger patients and examinations requiring flexible positioning. This wide-bore design gives facilities advanced 3T capabilities while improving patient access compared with conventional 60 cm systems.

BioMatrix Patient Table & Positioning

The BioMatrix dockable patient table supports patients up to 250 kg (550 lb) and allows patients to be prepared away from the scanner before the table is docked. eDrive provides motorized movement assistance, while Select&GO helps the technologist position the patient by selecting the intended anatomy directly at the scanner.

MAGNETOM Vida Configurations, Coils, & Software Options

The MAGNETOM Vida is available in multiple hardware and software configurations. Gradient package, RF architecture, coil inventory, software generation, and installed clinical applications directly affect the capabilities of an individual system.

Choosing XQ vs XT Gradients

The XQ configuration provides 45 mT/m maximum gradient amplitude with a 200 T/m/s slew rate and supports a broad range of routine and advanced clinical imaging. The XT configuration increases maximum gradient amplitude to 60 mT/m while maintaining the same 200 T/m/s slew rate, making it better suited to facilities prioritizing demanding diffusion, neurological imaging, and other gradient-intensive applications.

The gradient package should be matched to the examinations the system is expected to perform rather than selected by specification alone.

Choosing the Right RF Configuration

Tim [204 × 32] supports a broad clinical range, while Tim [204 × 64] and Tim [228 × 128] provide additional receive channels for higher-density coils, more advanced coil combinations, and greater acceleration flexibility.

Facilities planning advanced neuro, body, spine, musculoskeletal, research, or specialty imaging should verify the RF configuration alongside the coil package.

RF Coils & Coil Compatibility

The Vida supports Siemens multichannel and BioMatrix coils for:

    • Head and neck
    • Spine
    • Body and abdomen
    • Cardiac imaging
    • Knee
    • Shoulder
    • Hand and wrist
    • Foot and ankle
    • Flexible extremity imaging
    • Breast imaging and biopsy
    • Peripheral vascular imaging
    • Whole-body imaging
    • Pediatric and specialty applications

Compatible options include BioMatrix Head/Neck, BioMatrix Spine, BioMatrix Body, Body 18, UltraFlex, dedicated joint, Breast BI 7, and Peripheral Angio coils.

Some high-density coils require a specific RF configuration. Coil compatibility does not mean that every compatible coil is included with an individual Vida, so the installed coil package should be matched to the facility’s planned examinations.

MXR Imaging also provides MRI coil repair for supported MRI coils.

Software Generation & Clinical Options

Depending on software generation and installed licenses, Vida systems can support:

    • Advanced neurological imaging
    • Diffusion and tractography

    • Radiation therapy planning with RT Pro Edition

Installed software and licenses should be confirmed when matching a system to specific clinical applications.

MAGNETOM RT Pro Edition

The Vida can be configured as a MAGNETOM RT Pro Edition for radiation therapy planning. RT Pro Edition adds dedicated positioning hardware, compatible coils, and specialized workflows that allow patients to be scanned in treatment position, so a standard diagnostic Vida should not be assumed to include the equipment required for RT planning.

Magnet, Helium & MRI Site Requirements

Superconducting Magnet & Zero Helium Boil-Off

The MAGNETOM Vida uses a superconducting 3T magnet with zero helium boil-off technology designed to minimize helium loss during normal operation. The system still requires magnet refrigeration and appropriate cryogenic infrastructure.

MXR Imaging provides MRI refrigeration and helium services for supported systems.

MRI Room & Installation Planning

Siemens lists approximately 31 m² (334 sq ft) as the minimum combined space requirement for the magnet, electronics, and console areas. This is not a universal minimum scan-room size, since final room dimensions depend on equipment placement, facility layout, and selected configuration.

Installation planning should account for:

    • Equipment delivery and access
    • Floor loading
    • RF shielding
    • Magnetic-field safety
    • Cryogen venting
    • Equipment and service clearances

MXR Imaging can support facility planning with custom MRI shielding solutions and turnkey imaging project management.

Power, Cooling & Facility Requirements

The Vida requires dedicated electrical infrastructure, magnet refrigeration, equipment cooling, and appropriate HVAC. Eco-Power manages selected system components during non-scanning periods to reduce unnecessary energy use, while final electrical capacity, cooling loads, equipment-room requirements, and installation clearances should be confirmed for the exact system and site.

Available Siemens MAGNETOM Vida Configuration

An available Vida should be selected based on its complete installed configuration. Key factors to verify include:

  • Model year
  • XQ or XT gradient package
  • Tim RF configuration
  • Software generation
  • Installed clinical licenses
  • RF coil inventory
  • BioMatrix table configuration
  • Workstation
  • Accessories
  • Hardware or software upgrades
  • Magnet and refrigeration condition

MXR Imaging can confirm the installed hardware, software, coils, and accessories and match an available Vida to the facility’s clinical, technical, and site requirements.

Siemens MAGNETOM Vida Price & Availability

Vida pricing depends on the gradient package, RF configuration, coil inventory, software level, clinical options, system condition, and project requirements. MXR Imaging can assist with equipment selection, facility planning, installation, relocation, and ongoing MRI maintenance and repair, while Platinum Certified systems may also be available depending on inventory.

Facilities replacing an existing MRI can also discuss selling or trading in existing imaging equipment as part of the project.

Equipment is subject to availability.
