How Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR) is Transforming Patient Care

Dynamic Digital Radiography, or DDR, is changing the way clinicians diagnose and treat patients by moving beyond traditional static X-ray imaging. Instead of offering only a single snapshot, DDR captures motion in real time and reveals dysfunctions that cannot be seen on standard films.

At MXR Imaging, we provide DDR technology that helps providers improve diagnostic accuracy, strengthen patient engagement, and deliver better outcomes. We also work side-by-side with practices to ensure successful implementation. Recently, we sat down with Dr. Maggie Pezeshkian of Jawmatrix, who worked with MXR to bring DDR into her clinic. She shared how the technology has changed her practice and transformed patient care.

Moving Beyond Static Imaging

Conventional X-rays provide structural information, but they often miss important details such as subtle instabilities or compensatory patterns that only appear during movement. DDR bridges that gap by showing how joints and the spine function dynamically.

Dr. Pezeshkian explained that DDR has changed her ability to evaluate patients because it captures micro-instabilities, abnormal sliding, or hinging that remain invisible on static films. She noted that DDR allows her to move beyond “what the spine looks like” and focus on “how the spine and joints actually function.”

Patient Populations That Benefit Most

At Jawmatrix, DDR has been especially valuable for patients with TMJ dysfunction, where joint tracking irregularities are revealed. It has also made a difference for whiplash and personal injury cases by identifying ligamentous laxity and motion loss.

For patients with chronic neck or back pain, DDR often shows hidden dysfunctions that static films miss. Post-surgical and complex cases also benefit, as DDR allows her to monitor recovery and document evidence of stability or instability.

How DDR Revealed What Static X-Rays Missed

One patient came to Dr. Pezeshkian with chronic headaches and neck pain following a motor vehicle accident. Static films showed minimal findings. DDR revealed excessive translation between C4 and C5, which indicated ligamentous instability.

This discovery shifted the diagnosis from a muscle tension headache to a structural instability problem. With this insight, Dr. Pezeshkian was able to adjust the care plan, validate the patient’s symptoms, and address the true underlying cause.

Helping Patients Understand Their Care

DDR has also reshaped the patient experience at Jawmatrix. Patients can now see their spine or TMJ in motion, which makes their conditions easier to understand.

According to Dr. Pezeshkian, this transparency builds trust, improves compliance with treatment, and helps patients feel validated. Many patients remark that DDR helps them finally “see what’s wrong” after years of frustration with inconclusive results.

Why DDR with MXR Imaging

For clinicians like Dr. Pezeshkian, DDR provides clarity and confidence in complex cases. For facilities, it offers a competitive advantage by positioning them as providers of advanced imaging technology.

Working with MXR Imaging means more than purchasing equipment. Our team provides nationwide service and support, preventive maintenance programs, and training resources to ensure DDR delivers value from day one. With decades of expertise, MXR has the experience and infrastructure to help facilities expand their diagnostic capabilities with confidence.

Bring DDR to Your Practice

Dynamic Digital Radiography is more than an imaging upgrade. It is a tool that helps providers validate patient symptoms, strengthen clinical decision-making, and deliver more effective care.
